How do I install iFinger?

Does iFinger provide support for cd-rom products?
Cd-rom products have never been sold by iFinger LTD, hence iFinger does not provide support for cd-rom products.
Can I upgrade my cd-rom product?
Unfortunately Cd-rom products containing iFinger software are not upgradable. Cd-rom products consists of iFinger licensed software, and have never been sold by iFinger LTD.
Will my old dictionaries work with iFinger 4
You can see which version of iFinger you have by right-clicking in the iFinger window and selecting “about”.
Dictionaries that are version 2.5 or older will not work with version 4. If you want iFinger 4 and the new functions, you have to purchase the new search engine and dictionaries from our web shop.
Dictionaries that are version 3.0 – 3.6 will not work with version 4, unless you uninstall them and reinstall. Follow these steps:

- Locate the Cleverbridge-mail your recieved when you purchased your dictionaries.
- Uninstall your old search engine and your old dictionaries. (If you need an uninstall guide, see “How to uninstall iFinger” in the FAQ.)
- Download iFinger 4 and install it.
- Use the links in the Cleverbridge-mail to download your dictionaries. Install them.
Are the cd-rom versions compatible with the download version?
The CD-rom version is not compatible with the download version. Cd-rom products are no longer supported.
How can I run iFinger on a Mac OS?
iFinger requires a Microsoft Windows emulator to run on a Mac-based operating system. iFinger recommend using the program “Crossover” to run iFinger on Mac. It can be run while you work in the Mac environment. You lose some of iFingers shortcuts, but iFinger is still easy to access.

Notice that iFinger do not give support on this and can not guarantee that it will work.
How do I uninstall my iFinger products?
To uninstall your iFinger products do the following:
1. Go to Windows control panel, select “Programs and Features” (Vista) or “Add or remove programs” (XP)
2. Locate all iFinger products (search engine and dictionaries) in the list, select them and click “Uninstall”
3. Go to Start -> Programs -> iFinger and click “Uninstall” if present
4. Restart Windows
5. Use Windows Explorer and delete the folder “C:\Programfiles\iFinger”
I have an older version of iFinger, what happens if I purchase additional dictionaries?
First, check what version of iFinger you have by right-clicking in the iFinger window and selecting “about”.
You have iFinger version 2.5 or older: New dictionaries will not work with your version. If you want new dictionaries, you have to uninstall your old version and purchase the new search engine (version 4) and new dictionaries.
You have iFinger 3.0 – 3.6: New dictionaries will work with your version, but you will not be able to use the new functions in iFinger 4. If you purchase iFinger 4, you can still use your already purchased dictionaries. Read more under “Will my dictionaries work with iFinger 4?”.
I have a trial and want the full version. How do I proceed?
Simply purchase the product, and activate it with the product key you get in the confirmation mail. Remember that capital letters are case sensitive and to press enter after you have pasted the product code.
How do I uninstall iFinger?
To uninstall iFinger, follow these steps:
1. Go to Windows control panel, select “Programs” (Windows 7), “Programs and Features” (Vista) or “Add or remove programs” (XP)
2. Locate all iFinger products (search engine and dictionaries) in the list, select them and click “Uninstall”
3. Go to Start->Programs->iFinger and click on “Uninstall” if present
4. Restart Windows
5. Use Windows Explorer and delete the folder “c:\Program Files\iFinger”

The iFinger search engine is a software program that incorporates structured information databases. The program then provides the user with instant access to that information.
What is an iFinger dictionary?
All dictionaries provided at the iFinger web site are electronic editions which can be used by the iFinger search engine. You can add as many dictionaries as you wish.
What is the Pop-up Window?
The Pop-up Window appears automatically from your title bar when you move your cursor over a word in a web browser, or in any Windows based program. The Pop-up Window contains a summary of the results of the search from the product that you’ve installed.

What is the Article Window?
The Article Window will give you the entire listing as it appears in your product. If there is more text than will fit in the display window, you can scroll down to see the entire article by using the scroll bar on the right hand side of the Article Window. When you have finished reading from the Article Window, you can return to the Pop-up Window by hitting the “up” arrow.
Can I keep the Article Window open?
Yes. After you hit the “down” arrow, simply check the box that says “Keep Article Open”. Once checked, the Article Window will remain open for each product’s listing in which you’ve chosen to hit the down arrow. To close it, un-check the “Keep Article Window” box, and click outside the window.
What is the down-arrow?
The Pop-up Window will provide you with a summary of the listings from the products in which you’re searching.
If there is more information than can be displayed in the Pop-up Window, you will also see a down arrow in this window. When you click on the “down” arrow, the rest of the listing will appear in the Article Window.
Can I add new words in a dictionary?
No, since we only deliver dictionaries from publisher who will not have their dictionaries changed.
What is Wikipedia?
Wikipedia is a free online encyclopedia in which the general public can participate in updating the content.
How does Wikipedia work with iFinger?
To use Wikipedia with iFinger requires a connection to the internet. Once connected, iFinger will then offer a link to the definition of the word you selected in your local language Wikipedia in addition to the definition provided by your iFinger dictionary.
What is a download?
A download is the transfer of the product that you’ve selected, directly from the iFinger web site onto the hard disk of your computer.
How do I download a product?
The instructions for download will be clearly explained when you buy your product.
How long will it take to download?
The download time will vary depending on the size of the product that you’ve chosen to buy, i.e. the size of the file varies depending on how much information is contained in it. The approximate download time will be clearly indicated in the product information, but the actual time will depend on the speed and quality of your internet connection.
How many products can I download?
You can buy and download as many as you wish. The iFinger search engine can handle multiple dictionaries, and will perform a search through all installed content.
After I decide which products I would like to buy, do I have to download them all at the same time?
No; Once you’ve paid for the product, we’ll send you a license key and a link to where you can download the product at any time.
The product files are always available, so you can come back and download them again if need be. However, if you have repeated problems with your computer, then simply contact our customer support on support@ifinger.com and we’ll help you resolve the issue.
Which versions of Windows can run iFinger?
iFinger runs on all versions of XP, Vista and Windows 7.
Does iFinger run on Windows 7 64 bit?
The current version supports XP, Vista and Windows 7 64 bit
Double click does not work! Why?
Internet Explorer 8 running in Windows 7 “steals” the double click from iFinger. If you prefer to neutralize this (i.e. instant look up by marking a word and double click) you need to deactivate User Account Control (UAC) in the Microsoft Security settings.Notice that this is on the users own responsibility.
This may also be done through the Control Panel by following path:
- Activate or deactivate user control
- Deactivate user control.
- User accounts
One alternative is to use [CTRL]+[F11} or change to another browser like Mozilla Firefox or Opera.
